LOVELL — Thomas Railey Sawyer, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2014, in Lovell.

He was born in Portland, and attended South Portland schools and Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston. Tom was an accomplished carpenter for many years, and was later employed by Bennett’s Excavation Co. in Lovell. He deeply loved the town of Lovell, and was deeply loved by its people. Tom also loved animals (especially cats), and always said that animals are smarter than people. He will be sadly missed at his second home, Rosie’s Store, which he frequented daily and spread kindness to all.

A celebration of life for Tom will be held on Saturday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at Bennett’s Excavation Co., located on Orange Street in Lovell.
