Sylvia Murphy

SOUTH PORTLAND — Sylvia B. Murphy, 74, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at home, surrounded by her family.

Sylvia was born on May 25, 1942, in Berlin, N.H., the daughter of the late Frank and Nellie (Foss) Benson. Although she was born in Berlin, she grew up in Bethel, where she attended Gould Academy High School. After high school, she attended Bliss Business College.

After raising her children, she worked as an office administrator for George Business Forms. She later opened her own business, the New U Fitness Salon. In her retirement years, she was active in senior group fitness activities including Fit to Live and Lifeline. She also enjoyed tole painting, cooking, and socializing as a member of the “Red Hat Society.”

She was predeceased by her brother, Bradley Benson.

She is survived by two sons, Eric Gardner of Auburn and Darrin Sacre of South Portland; a sister, Sharon Kimball of Waterford; a brother, Frank Benson of Gorham; and two grandchildren.
