Susan M. Richard

SCARBOROUGH — Susan Marie Richard, born April 1, 1959, died Thursday, March 24th, while surrounded by immediate family at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, after a two and a half year battle against cancer. She was born in Portland to Richard and Linda Engelhardt, and grew up in Westbrook, attending Westbrook schools. Susan was the eldest of six siblings; Karen Rand of Somerville, Mass., Dan Engelhardt of Scarborough, Sherry Rainsford of Raymond, Laurie Perham of Naples, and Roy Engelhardt of Port Charlotte, Fla.

In 1977, Susan married Raymond Richard, of Rumford, Maine. She was a devoted mother of three daughters: Jill Hoverman, who currently lives in Franklin, Ind. with her husband Rob, and three children, Tabatha, Mica, and Eleanor, and Janelle and Jeana, who both live and work in Portland. As a dog lover, she supported pet adoption through animal shelters and made donations when possible. She enjoyed spending time at the ocean with her family.

At Susan’s request, there will be no wake or memorial service, instead there will a celebration of her life for close family and friends.
