Susan J. Strong, 70, of Bridgton, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, surrounded by her family at Bridgton Hospital.

Susan was born on March 7, 1946, in Arlington, Mass., to the late Robert and Ruth Townsend. She grew up in Melrose, Mass., and graduated from Melrose High School. She attended Northeastern University in Boston, graduating with a teaching degree in 1969.

She was married to the late Roger W. Strong, and raised twins, William and Robert, who were born in 1971. Susan spent time teaching in the Bethel School System, and at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Bethel, Conn. Susan finally settled in Bridgton in 1996 in order to be with her mother.

An active member of the Bridgton Hospital Guild, Susan volunteered on a regular basis at the hospital coffee shop, most recently as the manager.

Susan is survived by her two sons, William and his wife Michelle of Madison, N.H., and Robert and his wife Carrie of Utica, Ohio; her brother Robert Townsend of Georgetown, Mass.; her sister Melissa Leblanc and her husband Steven of Greenville, R.I.; six grandchildren, Ryan, Kevin, Tori, Billy, Joey and Candi; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed.
