Stanley W. Lynch Jr.

WINDHAM — Stanley W. Lynch Jr., of Windham, died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth.
Stanley was born in Portland on Sept. 20, 1924, the son of Stanley and Mabel Richards Lynch. After graduation from Portland High School in 1943, he served with the Army Combat Engineers during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Following the war, Stan joined the Portland Fire Department, retiring in 1972. He started a local contracting business. He was married to Doris (Blake) Lynch for more than 25 years. Doris passed away in 1985.
Never one to be idle, Stan enjoyed numerous activities and civic organizations. He was a born-again Christian, and practiced those beliefs and values through participation in several organizations, including the Fraternity Lodge I.O.O.F., the Woodfords Club, Maine Charitable Mechanics Association, Businessmen’s Full Gospel (Life Member), and as a 32 Degree Mason.
For recreation, Stan enjoyed traveling, a good book, fishing, 18 rounds of golf, gardening, and preparing his famous red hot chili for family, friends or guys at the firehouse. For seven years, he and his wife, Carolyn, wintered in St. Petersburg, Fla.
But for all Stan accomplished and contributed, he will be best remembered for three very special characteristics that he shared with everyone: the quick smile, a humorous anecdote, and his naturally generous nature.
Stan is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Morgan Bailey Lynch; son David Lynch of Sabattus; daughter Kathryn Grady of Buxton; stepsons, Robert Bailey of Yarmouth and Alexander Bailey of Hubbard, Ore.; stepdaughter Linda Lunt of Raymond; brother Richard of Riverside, Calif.; sister Joan Pottle of Portland; two grandsons; six step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and several nephews.
Visiting hours were held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham, with a funeral service following. Burial followed at Chase Cemetery, Windham.
