Spero J. Dyer

SOUTH PORTLAND — Spero J. Dyer, 66, of South Portland, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 with his family at his side after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1945 in Portland, the son of Florence Jones Dyer and Spero Dyer. He attended Portland High School and later worked for 10 years at New England Music in the 1970s. He later became a master carpenter and built his own business. He grew to be an accomplished general contractor and was a successful businessman for the past 30 years. Spero took pride in his work doing residential renovations, including a beautiful home he leaves behind for his wife Anne. He made his clients happy with his quality workmanship and careful project management.

Spero enjoyed traveling and antiquing with his wife Anne. They visited Cape Cod and Florida annually to bask in the sun, beach-comb and explore every antique shop they could find. Spero was a devoted and generous husband of 24 years and a loving brother and uncle.

Spero is predeceased by his sisters, Linda Parker, Jackie Neal and Theresa Reeves; his brother, Raymond Dyer; and a niece and a nephew.

Survivors include his loving wife, Anne Lewis Dyer of South Portland; a sister, Jane Ellicott of Raymond; nieces and nephews; and a great-niece.
