Sonia B. Woldow, 90

LAFAYETTE HILL, PA. & NAPLES — Sonia B. Woldow, 90, of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania, and Naples, Maine, passed quietly on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, with her daughter Tina by her side.

She was the daughter of Rose (Korenbleth) Becker and A.J. Becker. She was born on Nov. 4, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pa.

Sonia attended Lower Merion High School and later graduated from the University of Florida. She was married to Robert Woldow, also of Philadelphia. They produced four children: the late Richard Woldow, the late Dana Woldow Schreiber, Tina Woldow Rutan and Robert Woldow Jr.

She was active in many organizations, often in leadership roles. She was on the board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and Federation’s Women’s Division as well as the JCC’s of Greater Philadelphia. She also served on the boards of the Philadelphia Geriatric Center and the Jewish Publication Society. She served on the board of directors of Akiba Hebrew Academy for almost 40 years and as board president from 1978–1981.

She and her family owned a lakeside home on Long Lake and they enjoyed it together for over 50 years. She was an avid golfer, often playing rounds of golf in Bridgton and Lovell. She also loved reading, joining a book club organized by her Maine neighbors. She fully took advantage of her lakeside setting by swimming, waterskiing and later boat cruising with her husband Robert. She also was a longtime supporter of LEA to help ensure the lake’s health for future years.

She is survived by her sister Joy Naprestek (Bill); sister-in-law Betsy Becker (Steven); her children and their spouses: Cindy Woldow, Mark Schreiber, Frank Rutan, and Peter Scurlock; her grandchildren: Cypher Woldow, Julie Woldow, Jacob Schreiber, Max Schreiber, Sam Schreiber and his wife Zoe.

She was predeceased by her brother Steven Becker; her husband Robert Woldow; her parents Rose and A.J. Becker; her children Dana Woldow Schreiber and Richard Woldow.

Her funeral was held Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at Joseph Levine and Sons Funeral Home in Trevose, Pa., and interment was held at Roosevelt Memorial Park, also in Trevose. Condolences may be shared with her family at Frank.Rutan@dxc.com
