Shirley Chaplin Sr.

LEWISTON — Shirley Chaplin Sr., 78, of Norway passed away on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

He was born in North Fryeburg, July 29, 1933, the son of Alton and Gertrude Adams Chaplin. He graduated from Fryeburg Academy and had been employed as a skidder operator in the woods for many years. He married Madeleine Morin on July 29, 2000. He faithfully served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of the Waterford Grange and Pamona Grange, where he was an officer in both. He attended Oxford Advent Christian Church and had been the maintenance man there for 11 years. He loved life, people and all of God’s creatures. He was hardworking and loyal. He enjoyed dancing, gardening, hiking, canoeing, camping, being outdoors and watching birds. He was a bright light in this world and will be greatly missed by friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of Norway; his children, Shirl Chaplin, Wendy Bruins and Belinda Woitko; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Earle, Robert, Burton and Kenneth.

A celebration of his life was held on Friday at the Oxford Advent Christian Church, Route 26, Oxford at 4 p.m.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Waterford Grange or Oxford Advent Christian Church.
