Sheridan P. Stillman

RAYMOND — Sheridan Powers Stillman, 90, of Raymond, died peacefully on Aug. 9, 2011 at his home, with his daughters by his side.

Born to Floyd and Elnora Stillman on March 31, 1921 in Clinton Mass., he moved to Maine at the age of six. He graduated from Union Springs Academy, Union Springs, N.Y. and attended Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Mass.

In 1942, he married his childhood sweetheart, Pauline Warren, and they had a son, Barry.

On June 20, 1954, he married “the best woman in the world,” Effiemae Nisbet. They moved to Sebago Lake in Raymond, where they raised their two daughters, and resided until their deaths.

He was employed by Southworth Machine Shop for many years before starting his own Marine Engine business. His love of the ocean drew him to lobster fishing on Casco Bay for the remainder of his working years. He had the remarkable ability to repair anything and to make anything out of nothing.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed swimming, boating and snow skiing. One of his favorite pastimes was telling stories with friends and charming the girls over a muffin and coffee. His family filled his life with joy, love and laughter.

He lovingly cared for his wife before her death in 2000, after which his cats, Katie and Mickey, took a special place in his heart. He also spent hundreds of hours meticulously making saluting cannons.

He is survived by his children, Barry Springer of Westbrook, Sharon Stillman Dodson of Raymond, and Carol Stillman of Raymond; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

A memorial service was held at the Raymond Village Congregational Church on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011. Arrangements by Hall Funeral Home, Inc., 165 Quaker Ridge Road, Casco,
