FRYEBURG — Scott Anthony Kelly of Fryeburg, Maine, passed away on March 30, 2013, at Hospice House in Auburn.

He was a devoted husband, father, teacher, coach, mentor, loyal friend and champion of Fryeburg Academy.

He was born in Cambridge, Mass. on Nov. 27, 1933, the son of the late Dr. Joseph Kelly and Clara McKay, adopted son of the late Louise Kelly. He grew up in Orleans on Cape Cod and came to Fryeburg as a young man to take a post-graduate course at Fryeburg Academy. He graduated with the Class of 1953. Scott went on to the University of Maine and graduated with the Class of 1957. His dream was to be a science teacher and coach. He was invited to return to Fryeburg Academy and he fulfilled his dream in the school and town he had grown to love. Scott had a 61-year relationship with the Academy and was grateful for each and every year, and all the beautiful relationships he fostered with students, parents, faculty, staff and the town’s people.

Scott is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of over 30 years, Sandy, and their children: Shawn and Beccie Kelly, Ryan Kelly and partner Tina, Tracy Kelly Shriver, Megan Kelly Heagney and Sean Heagney, Jane Scanlon Cratch and Greg Cratch, Joey and Brenda Scanlon, Teri Scanlon Phillips and Page Phillips, Tricia Scanlon LaFontaine and Scott LaFontaine; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his brother Jack and wife Charron; his sisters: Geraldine O’Kelly, Susan McDormand and Linda McDormand Fleischli and husband Jerry; his many devoted nieces, nephews and their families. Scott was predeceased by his brother Joel Kelly.

A celebration of Scott’s life will be held on April 27, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Ada Cram Wadsworth Arena on Bradley Street, Fryeburg, Maine.

Scott was a Red Sox fan extraordinaire and the family would appreciate it if you would bring or wear something Red Sox.
