Sara J. Robbins, R.N.

HARRISON — Sara J. “Sally” Robbins, 83, died on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at Bridgton Health & Residential Care Center, surrounded by her family and friends who were also her co-workers.

She was born August 31, 1934, in Portland, to Elmer and Annie Johnson of Nova Scotia, Canada. Sally had many cousins in the Stewiake Valley of Nova Scotia.

Sally attended schools in Naples, Maine, and graduated from Bridgton High School. She also graduated from Maine Medical Center School of Nursing in 1954. Sally completed courses from USM in secondary education.

In 1955 she married her high school sweetheart, Maurice Robbins, and together they began their adventurous life together. Maurice and Sally had three children and together they fished, hunted, camped, snowmobiled, went on ATVs, traveled, and loved being together.

Sally was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron of Dwinal Chapter in Mechanic Falls. She also was involved in the Order of the Rainbow for Girls in Bridgton with her two daughters and many girls in the Lake Region area.

The family traveled to many sporting events to watch their only son, and this tradition continued on with their grandsons.

Sally loved to knit and the children of the various towns that she lived in were the beneficiaries of this talent.

Besides this active lifestyle, Sally was also a dedicated registered nurse. She spent many years at what is now CMMC in Lewiston, ending her career there as the Assistant Director of the School of Nursing. In 1985, she assisted the Hicks family in starting Bridgton Health Care Center. Sally worked for BHCC until the age of 78, when she finally retired. She was predeceased by her parents; and her loving husband, Maurice.

She is survived by her children, Susan and her husband, Michael Robbins of Naples, Willis “Bill” and wife Pam of Westbrook, and Sylvia Robbins of Naples; her grandchildren, Hannah Bea (Robbins) and husband Gary Bickford of Windham, Paul Robbins and Megan Dyke of Portland, and Joshua Wood of Saco. She also leaves many nieces and nephews whom she loved.

Visiting hours will be on Saturday, Sept. 1, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Hall Funeral Home in Casco. Burial will be private in Bolster’s Mills Cemetery in Harrison. Contributions may be made in Sally’s name to a school of nursing or children’s athletic program of your choosing. Online condolences may be left for the family at hallfuneralhome.net
