Sandra True

FRYEBURG – Sandra Gail (Colwell) True, 81, of Fryeburg, beloved wife of the late Harry “Pinky” True, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

She was born in Auburn, on May 30, 1935, daughter of Warren and Marion Colwell.

She graduated from Waldoboro High School in 1952, and she went on to attend Gorham State Teacher's College in Gorham.

Well-known for her love and genuine caring for the welfare of young adults, she has helped shape the lives of generations of students and athletes during her many years on the campuses of Fryeburg Academy and Maine Central Institute. She willingly accepted the role of “Mom” to many who sought or needed her. It simply did not matter who you were, where you came from, and what you did, Sandra always had a smile and a hug for you. Family was always at the center of Sandra’s life and family always extended well outside biological relatives.

Sandra most of all enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, time with family at the ocean, and watching basketball on TV. Her dry sense of humor, wit, and steady flow of sarcasm were well-known and appreciated by many.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Sandy is survived by son-in-law Butch Stacy; daughters Sherry Ingalls and husband Bernie, and Kathy Ela and husband Bill; sons Mark and wife Laureen, and Paul and wife Billie Jean; grandchildren Matthew Stacy and partner Janna, Angela Stacy Nelson and husband Adam, Andrew Stacy and wife Emily, Jared Ela and Mallory Ela and fiancé DJ Shaw, Keegan, Braeden, and Kylene True, and Spencer, Chandler and Jacoby True, and great-grandchildren Sawyer, Olivia, Darbae, Bryson, Caleb, Baylor, Camden, and Bristol. She was predeceased by husband Harry True; daughter Denise True Stacy; son Michael; and sister Constance Hanson.

The family would like to thank all those who supported her in her final years, with special thanks to the “Morris Girls.” Our heartfelt thank you to the Androscoggin staff for your caring ways. Your kindness will always be remembered.

Visiting hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the Wood Funeral Home, 9 Warren St., Fryeburg. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make memorial contributions to either Jen’s Friends Cancer Foundation, P.O.
