Roland J. Mulherin, 91

NORTH FRYEBURG — Roland James “Pete” Mulherin, 91, of North Fryeburg, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015, after a long illness. During his illness he was surrounded by his loving family.

Pete was born on May 22, 1923, in Jefferson Meadows, N.H., the fourth of five sons of Todd and Jenny Towle Mulherin. Although North Fryeburg was his home, he enjoyed wintering in his home in Sun City Center, Fla., for 14 years.

In 1968 Pete opened his business, Pete’s Garage, in North Fryeburg. His son Paul still actively runs this family business. While active in the business he loved going to car auctions with his wife Miriam.

Pete loved the outdoors, especially picnics in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. Fresh tomatoes from his garden were his favorite.

He was proud of his service in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a member of the 167th Engineer Combat Battalion. His unit was among the ones that assembled the floating bridge over the Rhine River.

Family was very important to him. He is survived by his children, Bette Tibbetts and her husband John, Dottie Johnson and her husband Bob, Alice Smith and her husband Steve, and his son Paul. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Miriam, and a daughter Judith Goss. He was very proud of his nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
