EAST BALDWIN — Robert W. Jewett, 83, of East Baldwin died on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a brief illness.

He was born in East Baldwin on July 30, 1931, a son of George and Frances Jewett. He attended local schools and graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1949.

Bob was a truck driver for most of his working life. He owned and operated G.W. Jewett and Sons Trucking, the business his father started, until the year 2000.

He was a member of the Greenleaf Masonic Lodge #117 in Cornish and also a member of the Kora Temple Shrine. He was a member of the Baldwin Fire Department for several years. Bob had also been a trustee at the Brown Memorial Library and the E.A. Center Memorial Clinic. He liked hockey and was an avid fan of the Maine Mariners and later the Portland Pirates. He was also a stock car racing fan and could often be seen at Beech Ridge Speedway. He traveled to races all around the country. He spent several winters in Daytona Beach, Fla. and took several trips to both Alaska and Hawaii. Bob will be missed by his loving family and all who knew him.

Besides his parents; he was predeceased by his first wife, Reta (Plummer) Jewett; his second wife, Margaret “Peggy” (O’Neill) Jewett; as well as an infant son, Robert.

He is survived by his daughter, Julie Geyer of East Baldwin; a grandson and great-grandson; several nieces and nephews and a loving extended family.

Visiting hours were held on Tuesday, May 26, at the Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the East Baldwin Congregational Church. Burial was private. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.wnyfuneralhome.com
