Robert W. Downing, 87, of Denmark, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.    

Bob was born in Waltham, Mass. on June 12, 1933, the son of Roy and Geraldine Downing.

Upon graduating from Waltham High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Arcadia. Bob was honorably discharged in 1954. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Page. Together, they raised four children in Holliston, Mass. — Cathy, Cindy, Curt and Doug.  

At the time of their retirement, they followed their hearts and moved to Denmark. Mom and Dad made quick friends and fond memories. After Mom’s passing, Dad thoroughly enjoyed his time at the American Legion Post 67 of Bridgton. As the oldest member, Commander Don Mulcahy made him feel special. We are deeply appreciative of the support we have received from Dad’s friends, neighbors and everyone from the Post. A special thank you to everyone at the I.C.U. at Maine Med for all their compassion.

Family and friends may attend a time of visitation on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Bridgton. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Sebago Cemetery in Sebago.
