Robert Weishapl

BRIDGTON — Robert David Weishapl, 59, of Denmark, died on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at the Bridgton Hospital in Bridgton.

Robert was brought into this world at Delaware Hospital in Wilmington, Del., on Oct. 21, 1957, to mother, Gwyneth and father, Robert Joseph Weishapl.

Robbie managed a rock band in the mid-1970s for a few years. After they broke up, he later moved to Washington, D.C., in the 1980s, where he worked very hard in the hospitality industry at several well-known restaurants. He purchased his first home in the Petworth neighborhood of upper NW D.C., back in 1989. Robert then thrived as one of Macy’s top Dock Warehouse managers in the D.C., metro area between 1995 and 2002, when he was able to retire and pursue a more relaxing and stress-free lifestyle.

Robbie relocated to the family summer getaway at Moose Pond in Denmark in the fall of 2011. Here, he continued his work in the hospitality industry until the fall of 2016, when he fell ill and was subsequently diagnosed with terminal Stage 4 lung cancer.

Robbie loved the arts, fast cars, boats, snowmobiles, snow skiing, water skiing up here in New England, and just living in the moment. He was a great proponent of the Moose Pond Association and the LEA in his support of the prevention of milfoil and other invasive plant species on Moose Pond and in the surrounding Lake Region lakes.

Robert is survived by his loving sister, Maryellen Weishapl of Wilmington, Del.; his friend and partner, Stephen M. Kusek of Annandale, Va.; and his loving puppy, Delilah.

A celebration of Robbie’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at the Chandler Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Brridgton. Online condolences may be shared at www.chandlerfunerals.com
