Rickford W. Tenney

SPRINGFIELD, VA. — Rickford W. Tenney, of Springfield, Va., died in Arlington, Va., on March 16, 2014, from respiratory and kidney failure.

Rick was the son of the late Wesley E. Tenney and Clara M. Tenney of Harrison. He graduated with the Oxford Hills High School class of 1968, and attended Husson College.

He was married to Linda (Merrill) Tenney of South Paris in 1975. After a successful career in mortgage banking, Rick retired early to pursue his wide range of interests, including financial consulting for small businesses, tax preparation for the elderly, picture framing, computer graphics — both for client advertising and for development of novelties to sell. With a lifelong interest in buying and selling antiques and collectibles, Rick was engaged to liquidate several estates in Virginia, and he became a licensed auctioneer.

Rick was quick-witted and delighted in “verbal volleyball.”  He was fun, creative, talented and generous.

Besides his wife Linda of Springfield, Va., he is survived by his brother Fred Tenney; nephew Trevor Tenney; and great-nieces Brooke and Chelsea Tenney, all of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Although Rick and Linda have lived for many years in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., Rick always regarded Harrison as his home. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Rick’s memory to the Harrison Dept. of Parks and Recreation, PO Box 300, Harrison ME 04040, or to the Harrison Volunteer Fire Dept., PO Box 300, Harrison ME 04040.
