Richard Staples Sr.

NAPLES — Richard Norwood Staples Sr., 80, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018.

He was born March 28, 1938, the son on Donald and Thelma (Leavitt) Staples.

He grew up in Westbrook, graduating from Westbrook High School in the class of 1957. On Nov. 22, 1958 he married Effie Harmon.

Dick spent his working years doing a variety of trades. He was mechanically-gifted, and worked as a machinist at the old Keddy Mill in South Windham. He also built power stations for Windham Electric. He was extremely handy and could take apart or fix anything that needed repair. He enjoyed tinkering and building things; one of his projects he was most proud of was his mobile sawmill that he built, which many family members sought great use out of.

Dick was a well-loved man who enjoyed racing at Beech Ridge in his younger years. He also enjoyed playing guitar and singing, gardening, fishing, hunting, and simply being in the Maine outdoors. He had a great love for his family, was an excellent provider, hardworking, and an all-around great Dad.

He is survived by his children, Russell Staples and his wife Alice, Richard Staples Jr., and his wife Christina, Donna Cote, and Donald Staples and his companion Janet Walsh; stepchildren, Erica and Jeremy; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Effie Staples.

A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 2 at 11 a.m. at the Friendship Cemetery in Standish. Arrangements are in the care of the Windham Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 434 River Rd., Windham, ME 04038.
