Richard N. Roos Jr., 65

LEWISTON — Richard N. Roos Jr., 65, of Naples, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after a brief illness.

He was born in Portland on Feb. 12, 1949, the son of Marie Roos and the late Richard N. Roos Sr. of Portland. Dickie grew up on Munjoy Hill and graduated from Portland High School in 1969, where he held the shot put title in New England. He attended Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in South Portland, where he developed his skills in the automotive field and later worked on the Portland waterfront. He was an artist, and as a young man, he drew wildlife for the Audubon Society. His greatest passion was the outdoors and was an avid fisherman where he fished on the Allagash and all around the New England area. He also had a passion for music. His mother remembers him fishing all day on the Portland pier, bringing home fish for her to fry. In earlier years, he loved hunting with his dad. As a teenager, his sister remembers a day at the East End Beach where he swam over to Fort Gorges and back, and his brother remembers him having a green thumb and could make anything grow in the ground. His family and friends recall him as being quite a prankster and joker. He also had a great love for animals especially his dog, Shelby, who he missed greatly.

He is survived by his mother, Marie Roos of Portland; brothers Paul Roos of Portland and Harold Roos of Raymond; sisters Ceceila (Penny) Boles of Scarborough and Joanne Parker of Portland; his aunts, several nieces and nephews; and many good friends. He will be sadly missed by family and all who knew him. Services will be at a later date in the spring.
