Raymond Burgess Jr.

MONTICELLO, INDIANA — Raymond M. "Ray" Burgess Jr., 38 of Monticello, Ind., passed away from injuries sustained from an automobile accident in rural Carroll County, Ind., on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.

He was born on Tuesday, June 7, 1977, in Portland, Maine, to Leslie B. (Nichols) Burgess. On July 11, 1998, in Hobart, Ind., he married Tarah A. Waters; she survives. Ray had lived in Indiana all his adult life.

He has worked at Alcoa in Lafayette, Ind. since 2014. Ray was a member of the United Steel Workers Local #115 of Lafayette.

He loved and enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting and the great outdoors. Most especially, Ray loved taking and going with his kids to various professional sporting activities and music concert events. He also enjoyed cooking on the grill and BBQs.

Ray loved taking his family to Maine, and showing them where he grew up.

Surviving are his wife, Tarah A. Burgess of Monticello; children, Tyler Waters, Cameron, Mackenzie, and Sawyer Burgess, all of Monticello; mom, Leslie B. Burgess (husband Lester France) of Bridgton; brother, Travis Burgess of Fryeburg; father and stepmother-in-law, Bill and Bonnie Waters of Monticello; mother-in-law, Patricia Carlson of Michigan City, Ind.; maternal Nana, Caroline Cannell of Casco; maternal grandfather, Mark Nichols of Limerick; great Meme, Frances Atwood of Windham; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A gathering of family and friends was held from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 21, at the Miller – Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello, Ind. A Memorial Celebration of Life Service was held at the funeral home at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 21, with Rev. Ryan Bailey officiating.

Burial will be private for the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
