Raymond F. Dunn, 89

DENMARK — Raymond F. Dunn, 89, of Denmark, died on April 20, 2016, at his home with family by his side.

He was born in New Rochelle, N.Y., on Jan. 14, 1927, a son of Joseph and Mae (Murray) Dunn. He attended New Rochelle schools and graduated from Isaac E. Young High School in his Junior year to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served as a Naval Corpsman during World War II from 1944 to 1946.

He attended college after the war and received his Bachelor's degree from Mount St. Mary's College in Maryland. Raymond received a Masters and Ph.D. from St. John's University in Jamaica, N.Y.

Early in his career Raymond worked for New Rochelle Hospital and Hoffman-LaRoche Pharmaceutical. He worked for New York Life Insurance Co. as the Medical Laboratory Director for the State and City of New York for 38 years. He retired in 1993 and moved to Denmark.

Upon retirement, he and his wife Nancy owned and operated Denmark Christmas Tree Plantation, starting in 1994 and continuing for 18 years. Raymond was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bridgton. In his spare time, he was very interested in Civil War and Native American History. He loved animals, especially his dogs. He will be sadly missed by his large, loving family and many friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Dunn; and a brother-in-law, Donald Bartnett. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Dunn of Denmark; seven children, Michael Dunn of Hamden, Conn., Mary Matuszewski of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., Noreen Nooney and husband John of Jacksonville, Fla., Brian Dunn and wife Gina of Darien, Conn., Susan Bitting of Concord, Ohio, Christopher Dunn and wife Linda of Rowayton, Conn., and Jacqueline Stafirny and husband Eric of Milford, Pa.; a sister Marie Bartnett of Scarsdale, N.Y.; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
