NAPLES — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying the individual responsible for robbing a woman of her purse while grocery shopping at the Umbrella Factory in Naples.
On Saturday at about 3:15 p.m., a 41-year-old Harrison woman had just purchased groceries and was walking out to her car in the parking lot. As the woman was about to load grocery bags into her car, a man walked by her grocery carriage and grabbed her purse. The victim grabbed onto the man’s arm to retain her purse, however, the suspect freed himself by pulling off his sweatshirt. The suspect then ran away in the direction of Bray’s Brew Pub with the woman’s purse. The purse contained typical identification cards and credit cards.
The victim sustained minor injuries (side/back pain) during the struggle. Also during the struggle, the suspect’s ball cap fell off. Both the sweatshirt and ball cap were recovered by police. The ball cap is unique (see photo).
Later in the day, the victim’s bank card was used to make a purchase at the Rite Aid on Portland Road in Bridgton.
The suspect is described as: Caucasian, male, 5-foot-9 to 6-feet tall, thin build, approximately 30 years of age.
The suspect may have fled in a full-sized, red Chevy or GMC regular cab pickup. The truck had a wooden ladder rack fixed to the bed.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the CCSO Detective Division at 774-1444, ext. 2108.
