Player of the Week — Jacob Stone

Jacob Stone

Jacob Stone is making up for lost time on the basketball floor.

“We severely missed not having Jake last year, not only because of his basketball talent but because of his leadership abilities, as well. He is an extremely hard worker, he is vocal with the team, holds everyone to a high standard and the players all respect him because he models it all,” Lake Region varsity boys’ basketball Head Coach Ryan Martin said. “Good teams are ‘coach led’ and great teams are ‘player led.’ This team right now is led by Jake, and it’s very fun to be a part of.”

The Lakers are off to a 5-1 start, ranked fourth in Class B South. Jacob is a big part of the success, dominating on the glass while also scoring double digits.

In recognition of his strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Jacob is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Q. What is the most important lesson you have learned from playing sports? Definitely that being mentally tough is the most important factor in competitive sports.

Q. What do you enjoy most about basketball? I enjoy the competitiveness, especially in the class we are in. Class B is very competitive and tough, and that’s definitely something I enjoy.

Q. What is your strength and what do you need to work on? I’ve been told I bring people in as a leader, and that I’m mentally strong. I’ve also been told by I need to get my arch up on my shot.

Q. What do you like most about your team? I love the camaraderie and how close knit we are.

Q. What have you learned from your coaches?I have learned many things, but one that really sticks out is that even the littlest compliment can boost someone up, on or off the floor. So, I try to do that to my teammates.

Q. Best sports moment?A lot of them stand out, but one of my favorites is the trips up to Caribou and Presque Isle. Those are always super fun.

Q. Most disappointing sports moment?I think missing my junior year was the most disappointing.

Q. Finish the following, “I will consider this a successful sports season if…”We are better at the end of the season than when we started.

Q. Future plans? To be happy and successful with whatever I decide to pursue.
