Player of the Week: Evan Kellough

SP 17 evan kelloughEvan Kellough took part in the Bridgton Highlands Country Club’s junior program, and has since gone on to become a reliable scorer for his high school golf team.

“Evan is a team leader in rounds played with a noticeable scoring average increase,” LR Coach Art Kilborn said. “He has been a very steady third or fourth man. Evan won five of his matches, demonstrated a strong work ethic and was dependable. A very good choice for player of the week. He is respected by all his teammates.”

In recognition of his strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Evan is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Q. Best piece of advice you have received? EK. “Take a deep breath, focus and play your game” — Coach Kilborn.

Q. Who is your biggest fan? EK. My girlfriend just started playing and always wants to know how matches went.

Q. I know I have had a good sports day when… EK. I know I have had a good sports day when I arrive home tired with a low score in my pocket.

Q. What is your favorite sport? EK. Golf because it is such an individual sport. It’s you trying to beat your own score.

Q. If I could change one thing about myself as an athlete, I would change… EK. I would relax more in big moments. I get way too stressed out.

Q. What qualities make for a good teammate? EK. The best teammate is the one that keeps everyone in a good mood.

Q. What do you believe you bring to your team? EK. I believe I bring consistency to the team.

Q. What characteristics do you feel make for a good coach? EK. A good coach will bring out the best in every single player.
