Player of the Week: Emily Doviak

By Wayne E. Rivet

Staff Writer

Emily Doviak is always looking to improve her abilities as an alpine skier.

“She is pushing herself to better her racing skills,” Lake Region alpine ski coach Jaime Fontaine said. “I look forward to seeing how she does this season. Last night, Emily placed 14th.”

In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Emily is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Q. Why did you choose skiing? ED. I have lived with this sport all my life. I love it so much. I have been skiing since I was two years old.

Q. What do you hope to accomplish this season? ED. I hope to be in the Top 10 every race this year. I also hope to work with the team and make everyone better.

Q. What do you enjoy the most? ED. I love to go to practice, knowing I can work on something new every day. I enjoy just spending the night with the team, which is so much fun.

Q. What do you like the least? ED. The thing I like the least is not being able to finish the race. I do like to fall in practice because that tells me I am not doing something right and I need to work on it.

Q. What makes you successful? ED. I think what has made me successful is my dad starting me at such a young age.

Q. What would your dream moment be? ED. My dream moment would be going to States and our team winning.

Q. What has skiing taught you? ED. To never give up and to always work hard at something you want to do well at.

Q. Who has inspired you? ED. I have to say Jaime (Fontaine, LR head alpine ski coach). She is always there for me when I am doing something wrong. She always has me working hard on it and to never give up.
