Player of the Week: Cody Gibbons

Cody Gibbons

Cody Gibbons

Cody Gibbons is the type of football player Lake Region Coach Brian Jahna likes to build a program around.

He is a tough to bring down runner.

He is a hitting machine from his linebacker spot on defense.

And, Cody has tried his best to help rebuild a program, which has been low in number of players out, as well as low on victories over the past few years.

“Cody has been a vital part of the football program this year. Starting with the summer, not only did he attend voluntary workouts, he actively reached out to the Lake Region High School community in multiple and frequent ways to promote the program and invite students to play on the team,” Coach Jahna said. “His on-field effort is superior to most on either side of the ball and he has earned the recognition of visiting coaches.”

The most exciting aspect of Cody’s development is his increased leadership skills.

“Cody has taken an active role in supporting younger players and modeling how to positively respond to difficult moments,” Coach Jahna said. “His leadership has provided the opportunity for success this year and is guiding the way for the football program in its vision to be character driven and to experience long-term success.”

In recognition of his strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Cody is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.”

Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Selections are made by the player’s varsity coach. Recipients receive a specially-designed T-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.
