NORWAY — Phyllis L. Welch, 90, of Poland, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, at Norway Center for Health & Rehabilitation.

She was born in Auburn on July 16, 1925, the daughter of Edward C. and Marion A. O’Connor Bartlett. She graduated from Mechanic Falls High School. On March 30, 1942, she married Leon M. Welch. She was mostly a stay-at-home mom on Johnson Hill for her seven children, but did work as a waitress at Poland Spring Inn and Lobster Land Restaurant.

She was very devoted to her family and was the family historian. She was a great shot and a good deer hunter. Phyllis was a member of the Busy Bee’s in Poland for more than 30 years and the Poland Snow Travelers. She loved animals, snowmobiling, country music, especially Vince Gill, and she was an avid photographer.

She is survived by her children, Joan Wilfong and husband Gary of Colo., Pamela Jean Hodenberg of Bridgton, Terry Plummer and husband Tom of Casco, Janice A. Whittemore and husband Melvin of Norway, and Rodney S. Welch and wife Annette of Mechanic Falls; daughter-in-law Clelie Welch; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband; two sons, Terrence Welch and Bradford Welch; three brothers and two sisters.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 2:30 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 26 W. Dwinal Street, Mechanic Falls. Family and friends called at the funeral home for a time of visitation before the service from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
