Phyllis E. MacKenzie

SACO — Phyllis E. (Morse) MacKenzie lost her courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at her home in Saco, with her family by her side.

Born in Portland on Dec. 12, 1930, she was the daughter of Merrill and Iva Morse.
She married the love of her life, Eugene N. “Bump” MacKenzie, in 1948, a marriage that would last 66 wonderful years. They relocated to Virginia so Gene could commute to Washington, D.C., while enlisted in the Marines. Upon completing his duties serving our country, they moved back to Maine for a bit; then to Plantsville, Conn., where Phyllis worked at Allied Controls Inc. with her favorite sister-in-law, Thelma (they were hell on wheels together).

Eventually, they returned to Maine again and settled in. Phyllis worked at Shaw’s Supermarkets and Fairchild Semiconductor in South Portland, from where she retired. In retirement, they bought a travel trailer and cruised the East Coast, eventually buying a home and wintering in Ellenton, Fla., and summering in Falmouth and Sebago. Phyllis loved reading, walking, jigsaw puzzles, snowmobile runs in Errol, N.H., and most recently, sunsets!

She is survived by her five children, Dean MacKenzie of Pace, Fla., Brenda Garland of Westbrook, Gail MacKenzie of Sebago, Eugene (Paul) MacKenzie of Punta Gorda, Fla. and Jan Minervino of Saco; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Merrill (Bud) Morse; and a sister, Leona White.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 35 Church Street, Westbrook. Interment will be private. Online condolences may be made at: www.DolbyBlaisSegee.com

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in memory of Phyllis E. MacKenzie to: Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
