WESTBROOK — Philip Harold Allen, 82, of Westbrook, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness with cancer.

Philip was born in Westbrook on Aug. 3, 1931, the son of Harold and Eliza (St. Pierre) Allen. He grew up on the Riv-InDale Farm on River Road, Windham. He attended Windham schools, where following high school he joined the U.S. Army and served three and a half years in Bad Tolz, Germany.

After discharge from the U.S. Army, Philip married Lorraine M. Brown of Windham in 1953, She preceded him in death in 1994. Together, they raised three children.

Philip settled into employment with Greyhound Bus Lines for over 30 years wherein upon retirement, he drove a school bus for Gorham and Windham schools systems before complete retirement. While working he was a member of the Maine Army National Guard for many years. Philip was an avid private pilot and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and obtained the rank of Major. He was also longtime member of the Free Masons.

Philip enjoyed hunting, bowling, fishing and golfing.

Philip is survived by his companion of 17 years, Marcia Button; his children, Holly J. Herrick of Naples, Mark W. Allen of Hampton, Ga. and Lori L. Campbell of Gorham; five grandchildren; four great-grandsons; his brother Charles Allen; and sister Nancy Buzzell.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, March 23, at 2 p.m., at the Clubhouse located at 665 Saco Street, Westbrook. Arrangements are by the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. For online condolences, please visit www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com
