Peter A. Kuvaja, 60

SOUTH PARIS — Peter Alpo Kuvaja, 60, of South Paris, died unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, Nov. 25, 2014, at his home on King Hill.
He was born on Jan. 25, 1954, in Norway, the son of Alpo Olavi and Evelyn Ethel (Rogers) Kuvaja. His father, Alpo died at an early age for Peter and his mother Evelyn remarried Walter “Pop” Haverinen, who was a significant part of his childhood and upbringing.
Peter attended local schools and graduated from Oxford Hills High School and later Central Maine Vocational & Technical Institute in Auburn.
On March 10, 1973, he married Nancy (Adams) Kuvaja in South Paris, where they made their home.
Peter worked at Bath Iron Works for 38 years as a supervisor and electrician.
When he wasn’t working, he loved to travel with his wife, and enjoyeed golfing, hunting, four-wheeling and NASCAR.
He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Haverinen of Norway; his wife, Nancy of South Paris; a daughter, April Barker and two grandsons of South Paris; two sisters, Linda Chandler of Livermore Falls and Kathy Neary of Norway, brothers, “Butch” of Rockwood, Bill of New Port Richie, Fla., Leslie Adams of Weld, Tim of Bath, Dale of Carthage, and Davon Dresser of Harrison; several nieces, nephews and a great-niece; lots of great friends and co-workers.
Visitation for Peter was held on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, at Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 45 Main Street, South Paris. Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at the First Congregational Church, 17 East Main Street, South Paris, with the Rev. Don Mayberry and Brad Chandler, co-officiating. Spring interment will be at the King Hill Cemetery in South Paris.
