DENMARK — Percy W. Lord, 88, of Denmark, died on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, in the very home he was born in on July 7, 1927.

He was the son of Kenneth and Emma (Trumble) Lord, and was educated in Denmark schools. After completing the eighth grade, he started working in the woods and driving a 4-horse team!

Percy worked for the Y.M.C.A. with Camp Blazing Trail for many years. He transported children to and from Boston for the camp and was very active with all camp functions. He became a Master Maine Guide while working there and supervised many trips to Mt. Katahdin, the Allagash and several other destinations. He later owned and operated Percy W. Lord Construction, which did road construction, foundations, etc., for many more years. He made many friends while working with the camp and taught in the Junior Maine Guide Program for close to 50 years.

Percy "tried" to retire but continued to do a lot of volunteer work, drove truck for his nephew, and became very involved with the Denmark Lions Club. He was famous for his "bean hole suppers" and for his donuts, now taken over by his nephew Kenny. He enjoyed hunting, especially moose hunting with his good friend the late Dr. Lowell Barnes. He brought 11 moose home from Newfoundland over the years. He married his wife, Wilma Holbert, on August 17, 1996.

He was very close with his son, Jon B. Lord, who died at a very young age.

Besides his son Jon and his parents, he was also predeceased by two wives, Shirley (Bempkins) Lord and Martha (Bullard) Lord; three sisters: Esther Dunn, Thelma Ford and Betty Bucknell; and a nephew, Tom Richardson.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma (Holbert) Lord of Denmark; her son, Nathan Holbert of Denmark; a sister, Marion Monson and husband Donald of Denmark; a nephew, Kenneth Richardson and wife Susan of Denmark; five nieces: Katherine Lord and husband Walter of Denmark, Linda Dunn Primus and husband Sonny of Denmark, Donna Hobbins and husband Barry of Saco, Jacky Macfarlane and husband Gary of Denmark, and Barbara Ford Ragsdale of Denmark; as well as many great nieces and nephews. Also a brother-in-law, Roger Bucknell of Denmark; brother-in-law, John Bempkins and wife Marianne of Florida; sister-in-law, Beth Dailey and husband Jack of Florida; and daughter-in-law, Carrie Knowlton of Saco.

A memorial celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, December 2, at 1 p.m., at the Denmark Congregational Church, with Rev. John Patrick officiating. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.wnyfuneralhome.com
