Pauline L. McKenney, 94

LEWISTON — Pauline L. McKenney, 94, passed away peacefully at Montello Commons on Thursday, March 24, 2016.

She was born Pauline Alma Libby in Mt. Vernon, on Dec. 29, 1921, the daughter of the late Erwin Elwood and Rose Alma (Hall) Libby.

She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1940. Pauline married Harlan Everett McKenney on Nov. 7, 1942, at the Court Street Baptist Church in Auburn. She lived at Montello Commons for four years, moving from Lisbon, where she had resided 19 years. She was a mother of eight, grandmother of 15 and great-grandmother of 28. She was a member of the Lisbon Free Baptist Church for 39 plus years. Pauline was the first recipient of the ROSE award by the Daughters of the King in Lisbon Free Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 9459, life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary unit NO DEPT NOMAD, the Daughters of The King, and the Coffee Club at Montello. In her spare time, you could find Pauline reading a book, knitting and crocheting, singing in the church choir, participating in Bible study and even painting, which she taught herself to do. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She liked to go for rides on the Maine countryside and going out to restaurants. In her younger years, she loved to camp and fish with her family. She worked at various companies in the area, but her main role in life was to raise her family.

She is survived by her sons, David and his wife, Ann, of Lewiston, and Neal and his wife, Diane, of Minot; her daughters, Gail Stretton and her husband, Richard, of Waterford, Jeanne Wood and her husband, Edward, of Portsmouth, R.I., Carol Bannister and her husband, Richard, of Lewiston, and Beth Jones of Monmouth; her 15 grandchildren including Donna Letourneau and her husband, Guy, of Raymond and Jill Ladd and Mike of Mojave Desert, Calif.; her 26 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Richard Aube of Dyersburg, Tenn.; and various cousins and four nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Harlan in 2008; her brother, Evans Libby in 1939; her sisters, Florence Libby in 1923 and Mary Ellen Aube in 2014; her daughter, Judith McKenney in 1946, and Sue Francoeur in 2008; her granddaughter, Stacy McKenney; and her great-grandsons, Justin Burke and Xavier St. Clair.

Visitation was held on Saturday, March 26, at Lisbon Free Baptist Church in Lisbon, and a Celebration of Life followed. Arrangements were by Crosman Funeral Home Cremation and Monument Services, 40 Main Street, Lisbon Falls, 353-4951.
