FREEPORT — Paul N. Roy, 90, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2013, in Freeport at the Freeport Nursing Home.

Paul was born on Feb. 25, 1923, in Brunswick, son to Lucia (Tremblay) and William Roy.

Paul entered the Navy in 1942 and served on USS LST 457, 458 and 46 during WWII. Paul was awarded an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon along with three Bronze Medals and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

Upon returning from the service, Paul lived in Topsham. He married Phyllis Allen Sylvester in June of 1960 and moved to Freeport. He worked at Bath Iron Works and later for the State of Maine, retiring to Flying Point in 1985.

Paul loved working in his gardens, growing pumpkins for his grandchildren and entertaining friends and family with clams he had just dug from Brickyard Cove.

In 2010, Paul was awarded his 50-year membership in the J. Arthur Stowell American Legion Post #83.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Lucien and Wilfred; and sisters, Germaine, Lucille and Cecile.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Phyllis Allen Roy; son Randell Roy of Freeport; stepson Ray Sylvester of North Fort Myers, Fla.; sisters, Cora Patterson of Gouldsboro, Loretta Dirck of Bridgton and Georgette York of Yarmouth; and four grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal Street, Brunswick, where a funeral service with military honors will follow at 3 p.m. Burial in Grove Cemetery, Freeport, will be held in the spring.
