Paul J. Chandler

WINDHAM — Paul J. Chandler, of Smith Road, Windham, passed away on Sept. 25, 2011, at the Gorham House.
He was born in Portland on Dec. 25, 1921, the son of the late William H. and Katherine (McCue) Chandler Sr. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in Riverton and also attended local schools.
Paul served three years in the service during World War II, serving with the 88th Blue Devil Infantry in Italy. His division was given the name of Blue Devils by the enemy. For his combat service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He worked for many years at the First National Bakery. Following his retirement from the bakery, he worked for the Windham School District.
He shared 42 years of marriage with the late Anne (DiCenso) Chandler, who died Oct. 7, 2010. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Ruth Boyd, Margaret Beturne and Catherine Chandler, and a brother, William H. Chandler Jr. Paul is survived by a brother, Lloyd Chandler Sr., of Naples; by a stepdaughter, Judith L. Craig, of Casco; grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private burial will be held by the family at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland. Arrangements are by the Dolby Funeral Chapel, Windham.
