Edward J. Nemo, 83, of North Bridgton, entered into eternal rest on August 4, 2009. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 26, 1925, the son of the late Walter and Mary (Opiala) Niemczynski, was educated in New York schools and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII. He married Frances Suleski on May 8, 1948, and was a mounted police officer for New York City, retiring in 1969 after 20 years on the force.
Edward enjoyed fishing, reading, surfing the internet, collecting rocks and minerals and especially loved watching birds and telling stories. He was a very generous man, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a very devout Catholic.
Edward is survived by his wife of 61 years of North Bridgton; four children, Linda Dunn and her husband Gregory of Altamont, New York, Thomas E. Nemo and his wife Loraine of Naperville, Illinois, Michael W. Nemo and his wife Patricia Warnken of Severn, Maryland and Mary Kronillis and her husband Gerald Surette of Harrison; 11 grandchildren Alecia Dunn, Gregory Dunn II, Cassandra Dunn, Elizabeth Nemo, Edward Nemo, Thomas Nemo, Leslie Nemo, Melissa Vetter and her husband Scott, James Kronillis, Zachary Surette and Matthew Surette and one great-grandson Aiden Vetter.
Visiting hours will be held at the Raymond-Wentworth Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Bridgton on Friday evening, August 7th from 6–8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bridgton on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Brian Blanchette celebrant.

SOUTH PORTLAND — Edward Greenleaf, 63, passed away July 28, 2009, succumbing to esophagus cancer.
He was born in Portland Jan. 27, 1946, attended South Portland schools and graduated from South Portland High School in 1964. After three years in the Army, including a tour in Vietnam, he attended USM Portland-Gorham and earned an ABA. He was employed by UPS for 10 years rising to the position of Center Manager. He then went to work for Hannaford Bros Co., from which he retired in 2002 as Director of Transportation with 24 years of service. During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, watching his two granddaughters play in the backyard pool, working in his yard, playing golf and delivering Meals On Wheels.
He was predeceased by a brother, Sumner, and a sister, Diane, as well as his parents, Blanche and Clifton Greenleaf.
He is survived by his best friend and wife of 21 years, Rebecca (Becky) of South Portland; a daughter, Kelli Keliehor of Buxton; a son, Jason of Casco; two sisters, Norma Haskell of Buxton and Sharon Steel of Harpswell; a brother, Clifton of Manchester, N.H.; and three grandchildren.
There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service was held Tuesday, Aug. 4 at Highland Memorial Cemetery, Highland Avenue, South Portland, followed by a reception at The Thomas Room, 729 Broadway, South Portland. FARMINGTON — Barbara Mouton Young, 77, formerly of Dayton, died early Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the Sandy River Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born in Portland, June 6, 1932, a daughter of Alexander and Frances (Horslyn) Mouton and was the widow of Ronald Young.
She is survived by her three sons, Ronald Tibbetts of Jay, Edward Tibbetts of North Waterboro and Alexander Tibbetts of Sebago.
A memorial gathering was held on Saturday at her son Ronald’s home in Jay. Interment will be at a later date at the Maplewood Cemetery in Standish. Cremation services are being cared for and provided by the Wiles Remembrance Center of Wilton and Gracelawn Memorial Park
NAPLES — Arthur McGowan, 81, of Naples and Fort Myers, Fla., died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009 at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick.
He was born in Lynn, Mass., a son of Peter and Rose Murray McGowan. Arthur’s wife of 55 years, Jean Louise Burke McGowan, died in 2007. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the Washington, D.C. Police Department. Arthur was a member of the Irish American Club of North Fort Myers, Fla.; a former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus; and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 155. He was a lifetime Boston Braves and Atlanta Braves fan.
Arthur was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Jean Louise Burke McGowan and a daughter, Patricia McGowan.
Surviving are: a daughter, Ann Marie Midkiff of Laurel, Md.; five sons, James of Orlando, Fla., Daniel of Windham, David of Naples, Robert of Nantucket, Mass. and Patrick of Naples; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

CASCO — Lillian C. Newton, 93, of Casco and formerly of Hawthorne Road in Raymond, died on July 28, 2009 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
She was born Dec. 22, 1915 in Raymond, the daughter of Willard C. and Bertha R. Libby. Lillian began her education in a country schoolhouse in South Casco. Her family later moved to Portland, where she attended Portland area schools, graduating from Deering High School. On Feb. 26, 1938, she married Nelson D. Newton, Jr., who predeceased her on Feb. 20, 2003.
Lillian worked at her father’s business, W.C. Libby Lumber Co. in South Casco for many years. She was also employed at Maine National Bank in Portland for several years. Lillian was a member of the Hawthorne Community Association and the Hawthorne Garden Club, both of Raymond. She and her husband were members of the Naples Country Club and were enthusiastic golfers. They enjoyed many winters in Florida and Georgia.
She was predeceased by her sisters Margaret Clark and Charlotte Carson.
Surviving are her three nieces and nephew; and several great nieces and nephews.

FRYEBURG — John H. Hammond Sr., formerly of Fryeburg, died Friday, July 31, 2009 at Bridgton Hospital.
He was born in Victoria, N.B., a son of Witmore and Pauline Fox Hammond and attended Fort Fairfield Schools. He married Gertrude Berube in 1953. She died in 2001. John was construction truck driver for many years and because of his construction jobs, they moved frequently between northern Maine and Connecticut. He enjoyed playing bingo and cribbage and going fishing.
He is survived by two daughters, Paula Ann Hammond and June Lynn Hammond, both of Fryeburg; two sons, John Henry Jr. of Gorham and Randy Joseph of Mississippi; four grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Spooner of Presque Isle.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, Aug. 4 at Number 4 Cemetery in Lovell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Bridgton Health Care Activity Fund, Route 302, Bridgton, ME 04009. Arrangements are made with Wood Funeral Home.
GRAY — Hilda M. Emery, 79, of Gray, passed way Aug. 2, 2009, after a short illness.
She was born Feb. 19, 1930, in West Gardiner, the daughter of Dexter and Gladys Carr, and was married to Forrest P. Emery Sr. of East Ryegate, Vt. on Nov. 11, 1950. Hilda raised two sons with the belief that if you raise your children right they will turn out to be good people. She demonstrated this belief through many years taking care of the local kids in the Town of Gray who all knew her as “Gram.” Hilda was very proud of them and kept a watchful eye as they grew to adulthood.
Hilda was predeceased by her husband Forrest P. Emery Sr.; an infant daughter; brothers George, Car, and Dexter Carr, and sister Flora McDougal.
Hilda is survived by two sons, Forrest P. Emery Jr. of Raymond and Dean M. Emery of New Gloucester; two sisters, Helen Johnson of Greene and Joyce Caverly of Winthrop; and five grandchildren.

PORTLAND — William H. Best, 77, died July 29, 2009 at the Seaside Nursing Care Facility in Portland surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Portland, Oct. 28, 1922, at the “Best Estate” on Stevens Avenue, the son of Freeda Hoyt Best and William A. Best of Portland. William was a 1941 graduate of Deering High School, where he was a football player. He also played semi-pro football for the Portland Morrells. William served a three-year stint in the Army during WWII with the Amphibious Forces in the South Pacific. He was also a staff sergeant during the Philippine Liberation. William married Dorothea Bourke on Sept. 3, 1948, at the home of her grandparents on Inverness Street in Portland. He would eventually purchase the home and become a 50-year resident. He worked for Boston Mutual Life Insurance for 30 years. After retiring, he worked as a courier for local banks. He participated in his children’s activities including scouting and as an umpire for East Deering Little League #7. William was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed all of their sporting events. William was a Red Sox and Patriots fan. He was also an avid cribbage player and enjoyed many games with his brother, Arthur. William was a member of the Woodfords Club and a very proud 30-year member of the Life Line Program at USM right up to the last day of the program, July 24, 2009, which he attended.
William was predeceased by his parents, William A. and Freeda H. Best; his wife Dorothea B. Best; and his brother Rodger L. Best.
He is survived by his brother Arthur Best of Portland; his sisters Evelyn Ryder of Gorham and Elizabeth Gray of Winter Spring, Fla.; his three sons, Norman K. (Skip) Best of Austin, Texas, W. Scott Best of Kennebunkport and Mark S. Best of Portland; his daughter Melinda J. Palmer of Casco; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 31, 2009, at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A graveside service with military honors was held Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Falmouth. FRYEBURG — Warren E. Weeks, 76, of Pequawket Village died on July 28, 2009 at the Fryeburg Health Care Center.
He was born in Porter on Dec. 17, 1932, a son of Percy and Doris Tidd Weeks and attended Porter schools. He married Virginia Emery on Dec. 24, 1969. He was a former member of the Porter Grange, the Kezar Falls Redman, and the Knights of Pythias. He worked for many years at Northland Shoe Company in Fryeburg. He had a great love of music, especially country music. He played piano and keyboards and enjoyed singing in several bands in his younger years.
Surviving are his beloved wife Virginia Weeks; his loving daughter, Wanda Weeks; and his sister, Ramona Knowles.
There will be a celebration of his life on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m. at Virginia’s home at Pequawket Village in Fryeburg (Pequawket Lane, Building 6, Apartment 3). Please dress casual.

SCARBOROUGH — Marshall Malcolm Tenney, 74, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
He was born in Casco, son of the late Warren and Inez Tenney. He spent most of his life in Bristol, Conn. and lived in Portland during his remaining years. He loved his family and his Chihuahua, Ginger, very much. He also enjoyed spending time with his longtime companion Theresa Gendreau.
He is survived by four daughters, Kathleen Lasky and Helena Vogel, both of Bristol, Conn., Lanie and Naomi of Maine; a son, Matthew Tenney of Maine; two sisters, Emma Grant and Francis Hunt; two brothers, Melvin Tenney and Franklin Tenney; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by three brothers, Guy, Alton and Arnold, and three sisters, Gloria, Beulah and Arlene.
