METHUEN, MASS. — Thomas Edward Galloway of Naples, Maine and Methuen, Mass. successfully completed his life of 85 years on Thursday, May 28th, 2009.
Born to Gerard and Olive Galloway on May 6th, 1924 in Methuen, he graduated from Searles High School. Tom served his country in the Army Air Corps as a weather forecaster during WWII in France. In 1950 he married Edith Rotondo and they enjoyed 59 years together, raising five children. Tom owned and operated Galloway Oil Co. and Galloway’s Grocerette on Pelham Street in Methuen for decades. As a member of the Y’s Men he was devoted to the YMCA Camping Services and volunteered countless hours at Camp Lawrence on Lake Winnipesaukee. Tom and Edith spent 35 years summering with their children at Sebago Lake State Park where they made lifelong friendships with other camping families. An avid gardener, Tom was known in Naples for his beautiful garden and as a many-year member of the Garden Club. Tom loved music. He played the piano and passed his talent on to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Edith, his sister Nancy Merrill and niece Pam Smith. He has three sons, Scott and his partner Rick Stanley, Bruce and his fiancée, Sandy Minor, Tim and his wife Ellie, and daughters Alice and her partner Mary Washburn, Jane Coletta and her husband David, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Rose Lee Glover, 76, of Bridgton, died at Bridgton Hospital on May 31, 2009.
She was born in Seoul, Korea on July 15, 1932 and was educated in Korean schools. Rose came to the United States in the late 1950s after meeting her husband Eugene H. Glover when he was stationed in Korea. Rose loved to sew and work in her flower gardens and could often be seen riding her lawn mower taking care of her lawns.
Rose is survived by one son Harry Glover of Bridgton; one daughter Doris Bugbee of Bridgton; four grandsons and seven great-great grandchildren.

CASCO — Cathleen “Joy” Jacobsen, 81, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Casco Inn Residential Care Facility where she had resided since 2006.
She was born in Westbrook, daughter of N. Holgar Christian and Oline Dagmar (Laursen) Christensen. She was raised, educated and resided in Westbrook most of her life. She graduated from Westbrook High School and attended Dana College, in Blair, Neb. She was employed as a dental assistant before becoming a homemaker and raising a family. Joy retired from Westbrook College, where she was employed as a switchboard operator and was known as “Mom” to many of the students. Later, Westbrook College awarded her an honorary alumni award. Joy had many talents and knit professionally for Sach’s Fifth Avenue. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, in Westbrook.
Her husband, Kenneth Jacobsen, died in 1975. She was also predeceased by a sister, Ella Christensen, brothers, Earl, Harry and Emmert Christensen; and twin great-grandsons.
She is survived by a son, Gary “Jake” Jacobsen of Scarborough; a daughter, Deborah Metivier of Standish; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.

WATERFORD — John “Jack” Nihan, 77, of Waterford died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 31, 2009.
Jack was born in Lynn, Mass. on Aug. 31, 1931, the son of George and Annie (Rogers) Nihan. He was educated in Lynn schools and graduated from Lynn English High School, Class of 1949, where he was an all-scholastic baseball player. After high school, he attended Salem State College and taught school in Lynn public schools for 44 years. While teaching, he worked part-time at the Lynn Post Office. Jack was an avid sports fan, especially the Red Sox, and was very active in the lives of young people, working as a counselor at the Boys Club Camp for many summers. Jack was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was a sacristan; was a member of the Waterford Grange and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Marjorie (Cooney) Nihan of Waterford; five sons, Paul Nihan of Peabody, Mass., Mark Nihan of Peabody, Mass., Michael Nihan of Wilmington, Mass., John Nihan of Lynn, Mass., and Christopher Nihan of Andover, Mass.; three daughters, Diane M. Suslak of Lynn, Joann M. Teed of Boxford, Mass., and Katherine M. Holmes of North Andover, Mass.; one sister, Ruth M. Konecki of Falmouth; and 18 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna M. Nihan and five brothers, George Jr., Robert, Roger, William and Leonard.
Hours of visitation will be held at the Raymond-Wentworth Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Bridgton, on Friday, June 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bridgton on Saturday, June 6, at 11 a.m., with Rev. AUBURN — Claude C. Linnell Jr., 86, of Fryeburg, died on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 in Auburn, after a brave battle with cancer.
He was born in Colebrook, N.H. on Aug. 31, 1922, the son of Claude C. Linnell Sr. and Mildred (Storey) Linnell. Along with his wife, Mary, he owned and operated his farm in Magalloway Plantation until it burned in 1951. He worked in the woods and operated heavy machinery for many years and retired from the Maine Department of Transportation in 1981. He was known in this area as “The Grader Man.” He enjoyed hunting and fishing, time with his family and gardening until the end. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary (Ferren) Linnell of Fryeburg; two sons, Gary Linnell of Fryeburg and Claude C. Linnell of England; three daughters, Elizabeth Paquette of Magalloway Plantation, Brenda L. Shields of Saco and Mildred Todd of Fryeburg; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

TAMPA, FLA. — Russell Edwin Hillock, 70, passed away at his home on May 24, 2009, with his loving wife and family by his side.
He was born on June 14, 1938, in Westbrook, the son of Cynthia Jane McLellan Hillock and Ariel William Hillock. He grew up in Westbrook and attended Westbrook schools. He obtained his GED while in the military. He also attended Husson College. Russell had a combined service time of 20 years for the military
. During his stint with the Navy he served on the U.S.S. Randolph Air Craft Carrier. With his 16 years in the army, he did two tours in the Vietnam Conflict repairing aircraft and helicopters. Retiring as Sargent first class E-7 from the military Russ worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 15 years, finally retiring and able to relax to do all the projects and hobbies he so loved. Russ was also known as the “Putterer.” His favorite thing to do was crossword puzzles often assisted by his wife. On Feb. 14, 1994, Russ was married to what became his best friend and care giver his Angel Miss Lanette Kitchin. Although miles away from his two daughters, Melinda and Melody, he was always thinking of them. Russell will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his bubbly and vibrant sense of humor. Russ will be especially remembered as a practical joker by his youngest brother and best friend Dwight.
He is predeceased by both of his parents; brothers, William, Richard, Edward; and sisters Arlene Randall and Hazel Hillock.
He is survived by his spouse and partner for life, Lanette Kitchin Hillock of Tampa, Fla.; daughters, Melinda A Hillock of Massachusetts, and Melody E. Hillock of New York; stepson Stephen Kitchin of Scarborough; stepdaughter, Kimberly Small of Biddeford; a grandson and five step-grandchildren; his brother Dwight Anthony Hillock of Lovell; his sisters, Helen Hillock DeRice of Webster, N.Y., Alice Hillock Bye of Falmouth, Hilda Hillock Hill of Lyman, and Nancy Jane Hillock-Wescott of Westbrook; many nieces and nephews.

MILTON MILLS, N.H. — Nina G. Bowring, 67, of Jug Hill Road in Milton Mills, N.H. and formerly of Casco, died May 24, 2009.
Born Nov. 1, 1941, in Buxton, the daughter of the late Wilbur and Lucille (Turgeon) Crockett, she was raised in Buxton and resided in Casco for 20 years, and more recently resided in Milton Mills, N.H. She had done custodial work at Scarborough Downs and worked in housekeeping at Falmouth By The Sea. Widow of the late Raymond B. Foster Sr., who died in 1977 and the late Henry Bowring, who died in 2005, she was a homemaker and had attended the Milton Assembly of God. Nina enjoyed knitting, crocheting and crafts.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela J. Smith of Milton Mills, N.H.; two sons, Raymond B. Foster Jr. of Effingham, N.H., and Roland S. Foster of Casco; five grandchildren and a great-grandson; a brother, Joseph Crockett of Berwick; two sisters, Judy Walker of Buxton, and Hilda Gladstone of Yarmouth; and also many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ermalene F. Alexander, 79, of Bridgton, beloved cousin and aunt, joined the love of her life, Fred Alexander, in death on May 28, 2009 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
She was born in Portland on April 3, 1930, the daughter of George W. and Molly (Best) Record. She was educated in Bridgton schools. She married Fred L. Alexander on Oct. 31, 1948. She worked at various jobs in the area including the Mayfair Diner, Bridgton Dress Company, childcare, and Yankee Masters, all in Bridgton. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting and gardening.
She is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and three brothers Arthur, Charles, and George.

He was the son of Jesse and Ellener Moore of Casco.

DENMARK — John R. Osgood, 61, died May 30, 2009 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland following a short illness.
He was born in Bridgton on Nov. 10, 1947, the son of John and Doris (Libby) Osgood. He was educated in Denmark schools and graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1966. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam era and had worked as a self-employed carpenter for many years. John was an avid sportsman, loving to go hunting, fishing and camping. John was especially proud of his family and the grandchildren
John is survived by his mother of Bridgton; his wife, Joyce (Durgin) Osgood of Denmark; two daughters Lynn Augustine of Brunswick and Lisa Witte of Manchester, N.H.; one sister Linda Cousins of Bridgton; and two grandchildren.

WESTBROOK — Janet Ellen Bradley, 77, of Westbrook, died peacefully on May 27, 2009. She had been ill for many years with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was born on Jan. 27, 1932, in Cape Vincent, N.Y., the daughter of Roy and Naomi (Bailey) Milligan. As a child, she and her family moved often, living in New York State, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In 1949, they relocated to Taunton, Mass., where she was a 1950 graduate of Taunton High School. It was during that year that she met her future husband, Robert. Janet was a 1953 graduate of the St. Luke’s School of Nursing in New Bedford, Mass., and an R.N. at Morton Hospital in Taunton. In 1956, she married Robert L. Bradley, started a family, and in 1962 they moved to Portland. For the next three decades, she was a homemaker developing keen interests in decorating, furniture refinishing and antiques. She was also an avid bridge player. In the early 1980s, she began volunteering at Planned Parenthood, later becoming a staff member. Following Robert’s retirement, she enjoyed traveling and together they visited many places around the world. The debilitating effects of her disease, beginning in her mid-60s, curtailed their future plans and for the next several years she was cared for at home by Robert.
She was predeceased by a brother, Lt. John W. Milligan (USAF).
She is survived by a sister, Naomi Anne Dustin of Laconia, N.H.; a brother, Roy M. Milligan Jr. of Pepperell, Mass.; her husband of 53 years, Robert L. Bradley of Westbrook; and five children, Michael L. of Durham, N.H., Susan A. Bowman of Portland, Stephen J. of Denmark, Linda E. of Portland, and David R. of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family has donated Janet’s remains to the Anatomical Donor Program of the University of New England.
