Carl Michael Lindberg, age 71, of Radnor, Pennsylvania. and Bridgton, Maine, died at his home on Dec. 21, 2009. An avid golfer and antiques collector, he was a founding partner of Brandywine Global Asset Manage-ment formerly located in Wilmington, Delaware. Legg Mason purchased the firm in 1996, and he retired in 2001 but continued as a private financial advisor affiliated with Jamison Prince Asset Management located in New York City.
Born in Manhattan in 1938 to Dorothea Williams and Carl O. Lindberg, who was president of the American office of Consolidated Goldfields of South Africa, he attended the Browning School in New York City and graduated from Wilbraham Academy in Massachusetts in 1957. He earned an economics degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia in 1962, where as a member of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity he served as their national undergraduate and then graduate treasurer. He joined Brown Brothers Harriman of New York, a private bank, in 1964 in their research department as an assistant to Eugene Banks.
Moving to Philadelphia in 1971, he managed the stock portfolio and new acquisitions for Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company until he began Brandywine Asset Management in 1986. He and his wife, Julie Kellogg Lindberg, whom he married in 1962, began Julie Lindberg Antiques in 1980, becoming well-known dealers in Americana and Chinese Porcelains and exhibiting in many national antique shows until 2008. He personally collected inkwells and marine art. Together they were members of Collectors Circle at Winterthur Museum in Wilmington, Delaware where he was a member of the Finance Committee. They also served on the Board of Advisors to Strawberry Banke Museum in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Carl headed their Investment Committee until 2005. He was also a member of Friends of Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia.
More recently, Carl was a founder of the Rufus Porter Museum in Bridgton, Maine, where he and Julie maintain a summer home on Highland Lake. He was a member of St. David’s Golf Club in Radnor, Pennsylvania and a partner of the Bridgton Highlands Country Club in Bridgton. Carl loved contact sports of any kind, and coached Little League baseball in Strafford, Pennsylvania for ten years in the 1980s. He was on the swimming team in college, and also played football.
Known for his high integrity and business sense, great humor and mischievous pranks, he will be greatly missed by his friends and family, his business associates and the antiques community.
He is survived by his wife, Julie, of Radnor, a son, Carl Eugene, of Reston, Virginia, his daughter, Kristen Anne, son-in-law, Sam Healey, and granddaughter, Sydney, of Mamaroneck, New York, and many cousins from the Sydney, Australia area. His parents and brother, Robert Lindberg, predeceased him.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at the St. David's Radnor Episcopal Church at 763 Valley Forge Rd., Wayne, Pennsylvania. Dorothy J. Stephenson, 86, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Harrison, Maine, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at the Hospice Center of Charleston, South Carolina.
Dorothy was born May 31, 1923 in New York City, the first daughter of Sophie and Adam Norris. She married Edmund C. Stephenson on April 30, 1944. After raising her three sons, she earned a master's degree in education and taught elementary school for many years in West Chester, Pennsylvania. After retirement, Dorothy resided in Harrison, Maine and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with her husband, Edmund, until his death and thereafter. Her family meant everything to her and she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Dorothy's faith was essential to her as a lifelong devout Roman Catholic. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bridgton, Maine and our Lady Star of the Sea Church, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was active in the Ladies' Guild in both parishes. Dorothy was an avid bridge player with her many wonderful friends. She also loved to travel and did so extensively over the years.
She was buried with her husband of 43 years, Edmund C. Stephenson, at the Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Virginia on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 after a mass of Christian burial at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Clifton, Virginia. A separate Memorial Service will be held in the near future in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Edmund and his wife, Louanne, Ronald and his wife, Kathleen, and Robert; and her sister, Jean LeArdo. She has six grandchildren, Jennifer, Katherine, Brian, Audrey, Caroline and Kimberly. She has two great-grandchildren, Ross and Reese Gordon.

Edward ToomeyDENMARK — Edward Toomey, 55, of Denmark passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sadly, Ed’s wife, Gina Guidoboni, passed away soon afterwards.
They leave behind their daughter, Mary F. Toomey and Ed’s two sons, Edward and Robert Toomey. Ed enjoyed the outdoors of Maine spending his free time repairing motorcycles, cars and boats. Fond memories are cherished of days on the beach with his daughter Mary. Ed will be missed by his many friends and family.

DENMARK — Gina Elizabeth Guidoboni, 53, died suddenly on Jan. 11, 2010 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Born in Middleboro, Mass. on Nov. 13, 1956, she was the daughter of Donald and Mary (Eldridge) Guidoboni. She had lived in Denmark with her beloved partner of 25 years, Edward Toomey, who predeceased her by three days. They are survived by their loving daughter, Mary Florence. Gina was a loving and kind person who accepted people from all walks of life. Gina had recently graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from Central Maine Community College. She also had training in nursing that allowed her to care for Eddy at home over the last year throughout his courageous struggle with cancer. Gina was an avid swimmer, reader and loved walking outdoors especially with her daughter Mary. After graduating from Middleboro High School in 1974, Gina attended Lock Haven State College in Pennsylvania. She worked in Middleboro for several years before moving to Bridgton in 1983. In Bridgton, she worked at the Sebago Shoe Factory for many years before attending nursing school. Gina loved Maine for its natural beauty, she was a nature and animal lover all of her life. She had also spent time in the past as a volunteer at the Harvest Hills Animal Shelter in Fryeburg. Gina was a lifetime member of The Soule Homestead in Middleboro. She loved the farm and cherished her time there when she was in the area visiting her parents.
Survivors include her devoted daughter, Mary Toomey of Denmark; her parents, Donald and Mary Guidoboni of Plymouth, Mass.; her brother, Donald Guidoboni of Andover, Mass.; her sister, Lisa Guidoboni also of Andover, Mass.; and her sister, Mila Galloni of Littleton, Mass. Gina was also survived by nine nieces and nephews.
A memorial and graveside service will be held in Maine in the spring. Maryann HathawayNAPLES — Maryann Hathaway, 73, died peacefully with her family at her side on Jan. 11, 2010 at Maine Medical Center after a long illness.
She was born in Bangor on July 19, 1936, the daughter of Joseph and Kathleen (Clukey) McCarthy. She graduated from John Bapst High School in Bangor, and the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Portland in 1957. In 1958, she married Peter B. Hathaway of Naples, and they moved to Winchester, Mass., where Maryann worked as an operating and emergency room nurse at the Winchester Hospital. In 1964, she left nursing to raise a son and daughter. She enjoyed all the related family activities, including taking up skiing, although not a favorite pastime, so as to be with her family. In the mid-1980s, she took refresher courses at Boston College and returned to nursing in the Outpatient Department of Danvers Hospital. In 2001, she retired to Naples with her husband. There, she enjoyed traveling and helping with the restoration of the family farm. She was an avid novel reader and new recipe cook.
Maryann’s parents and sister, Patricia Schenning, predeceased her.
She is survived by and sadly missed by her husband, Peter Hathaway of Naples; her brother, Joseph McCarthy Jr. of Ellsworth; son Steven C. Hathaway of Lynn, Mass.; daughter Kristin A. Hathaway of Stowe, Vt.; a granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Casco Village Church, 941 Meadow Road (Route 121), Casco at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23. There will be a family burial in the spring. A celebration of Maryann’s life will be held in June on a date to be announced. Anne Richards Lawrence, 82, of Bridgton died Jan. 18, 2010 at Bridgton Hospital.
She was born on the Dec. 8, 1927, the daughter of Henry B. Richards and Julia LaBau Richards. She was educated at the Dobbs School in Tarrytown, N.Y. and later graduated from Lake Erie College in Erie, Pa. in 1949. She had worked as a lab tech at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital from 1949 to 1956 before starting her family. Anne was an avid tennis player and field hockey player and was also active in synchronized swimming in Glens Falls, N.Y.
She is survived by her husband, Merrill, whom she married Oct. 8, 1954; a son, Merrill “Locke” Lawrence III of Menden, Mass.; two daughters, Julie L. Lawrence and Sallie S. Lawrence, both of Bridgton; a sister, Julie Anderson of Wilton, Conn.; and two grandchildren.

Robert D. MerrillPOLAND — Robert (Bob) D. Merrill, 84, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2010 with his loving family by his side.
Born in Skowhegan on Feb. 4, 1925, he was the son of Frank and Hattie May (Merrill) Sanborn. He proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Mary Lou; daughters, Roberta Edson of Casco and Deborah Penney of Oxford; son, Michael Merrill of Poland; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his grandson.

Edith H. Cole, 96, formerly of Winslow and Waterville, died on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 at Bridgton Hospital.
She was born in Alberta, Canada, on Jan. 13, 1914 to Alva P. and Minnie (Condra) Hughes. She graduated from high school in Dillon, Mont. and from Pasadena Junior College with a registered nurse degree. She was a nurse in the U.S. Army during World War II, where she met her husband, John Cole, while they were both stationed in England. They were married on Dec. 15, 1945 in Long Beach, Calif., where their two daughters, Barbara and Shirley, were born in 1946 and 1948. In 1949, they moved to Beverly, Mass., her husband’s hometown. Edith was a night supervisor at Beverly Hospital for almost 25 years, retiring in 1976. She helped with Girl Scouts, and enjoyed her family, sewing, gardening, bird watching and reading. She was an active member of the Second Congregational Church of North Beverly. She was also a member of a local service group, The Charitables. After the death of her husband in 1986, she moved to Waterville in 1987. In 2002, she moved to Goudreau’s Retirement Inn in Winslow. In June 2009, she moved to the Fryeburg Health Care Center.
Edith is predeceased by her husband John; and her daughter, Shirley Perkins in 2004.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Mayo of Bridgton; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
There will be no funeral service. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Roberta F.I. SimpsonNAPLES — Roberta F.I. Simpson, 93, of Ormond Beach, Fla. and formerly of Gorham and Naples, passed away on Jan. 17, 2010.
She was born in Andover, Mass., to Fred and Alma Shiers. She had a twin brother, Robert. She graduated from Punchard High School in 1934, married Harold S. Simpson in 1938, and had two daughters, Judith and Glenna. They moved to Falmouth in 1943 and eventually to Gorham and Naples. Mrs. Simpson was a homemaker who loved to sew and cook. Her greatest love was fishing, whether in the lake at Naples, deep-sea or even smelting. Mrs. Simpson was recognized in Gorham as becoming the first woman branch officer for Canal National Bank. She later became assistant to the Registrar at University of Maine-Gorham Campus.
She was predeceased by her husband and brother.
She is survived by her daughters, Judith Stevenson and Glenna Jillson; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Road, Casco, on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Edes Falls Cemetery in Casco. WINDHAM — Jessica N. Farris Akers, 28, died unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 11, 2010.
Jessica was born in Portland on July 29, 1981, the daughter of James G. Farris and Ann Marie Latini. Jessica strived to make her and her daughter’s life better by continuing her education and being dedicated to her career at Norway Saving Bank. She was a fantastic mother to her daughter, Gabrielle. Jessica enjoyed her vacations working at the Fryeburg Fair with mother and her time at the family cottage in Fryeburg. Jessica enjoyed spending many good times with her friends dancing, singing and keeping them entertained with her bubbly personality.
Jessica is survived by her father, James G. Farris and stepmother Estelle of Cumberland; mother, Ann Marie and step-dad Michael Linehan of Bridgton; her daughter, Gabby Leigh Akers of Windham; a brother, Ian Farris of Cumberland; three sisters, Christina Goldy of Groton, Conn., Kandi Allen of South Paris and Nicole Peters of Portland; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and her grandparents, Mary and Norman McNally of North Windham, Philip and Mary Latini of Bonita, Fla., and Robert and Marilyn Linehan of Huntington Beach, Calif.
She was predeceased by here grandparents Melville and Marlene Farris, Gladys Smith and James Smith.

WESTBROOK — Lewis Gardner Emery, 90, passed away on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at his home in Westbrook.
He was born in Portland, the son of Clarence E. and Harriet Myatt Emery. He was raised in Portland, attended Deering High where he ran cross country and played trumpet in the Deering High Band, class of 1938. Lew was a Boy Scout (Star rank) and a Sea Scout. He went on to the University of Maine at Orono, studying Mechanical Engineering, Class of 1943. He was a member of Phi Eta Kappa Fraternity. His last visit with the brothers at the “Green House” was at its 100th anniversary in 2006, which he attended with his son, also a PEK brother. Lew helped build Liberty ships in South Portland and was also in the Merchant Marines during the war. For 35 years, Lew was employed by Industrial Risk Insurers as an industrial appraiser. His work brought him to many parts of the country, visiting companies to assess their building and content value. Lew and his wife, Fran, loved to ski, and were members of the Downeast Ski Club for over 40 years. The club members brought so much friendship, endless joy, and wonderful memories to his life. Lew attended Trinity Episcopal Church with his parents and brothers. Lew enjoyed building and spent much of that talent on their “camp” at Little Sebago Lake. There was always a rock wall, foundation or structure to build somewhere. Lew had a legendary sense of humor, which he often expressed in his poetry. He and Fran spent 23 years after retirement, as “snowbirds.” Those winter months were filled with Jazz jams and spending quality time with so many friends.
He was predeceased by his brother Clarence “Gene” Emery of Maryland.
Lew is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Frances Waters Emery; his four children, Lewis H. in Westbrook, Marsha E. Blaisdell of Portland, Chris H. Emery of Gray, Lynn E. Wight of Gorham; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother Franklin C. Emery of Raymond; two nephews.
Memorial services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 113 Coyle St., Portland. FRYEBURG — Ralph E. Hutchins, 59, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 at his residence.
He was born in Bridgton, a son of Bernard and Mildred Drowns Hutchins and attended local schools. He was employed by Forest Industries in Fryeburg for over 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and collecting gems. In his later years, he collected and traded sports cards.
He is survived by his best friend and ex-wife Mary Ann Hutchins of Brownfield; one daughter, Jessica Williams of Brownfield; two sons, Edward and Nathan Hutchins, both of Brownfield; two brothers, Ronald Hutchins of Bar Harbor and Charles Hutchins of Conway, N.H.; and three grandchildren.

WESTBROOK — Roger E. Richard, 68, of Westbrook, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at St. Joseph Manor.
He was born in Westbrook, the son of Donat and Evangeline LeBlanc Richard. He was raised and educated here and was a graduate of Westbrook High School. He served in the Army National Guard. Roger had been employed for many years at the Sebago Moc Co. He was a member of the St. Hyacinth Historical Society and was a history buff.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur, Robert, and Rene.
He is survived by four sisters, Dorila Galipeau, Jeannette Swett and Yvonne Spizuoco, all of Westbrook and Lorraine LeBlanc of Bookelia, Fla.; two brothers, Alfred Richard of Westbrook and Ovide Richard of Baldwin.
Visiting hours were held Tuesday at the Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church Street, Westbrook. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday at St. Anthony Church. Interment will be in St. Hyacinth Cemetery.
SEBAGO — Scott William Harnden, 45, died on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at River Ridge in Kennebunk after injuries from a motorcycle accident on July 31, 1986, in North Sebago.
He was born in Lawrence, Mass. on June 25, 1964, the son of Philip and Edie Carnes Harnden. Scott and his family lived in Andover, Mass. and he attended Andover public schools from grades K-11. In 1981, his family moved to Sebago and he was a 1982 graduate of Lake Region High School, where he was at the top of his House Construction class. He was a self-employed contractor, working for quite some time on Frye’s Island. He was also a member of the Sebago Fire Department, and an honorary member of the Maple Grove Grange. Scott enjoyed his unicycle, four-wheeling, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, motorcycling, skateboarding and water sports. Before his accident, he was engaged to Christine Podlaski. Scott enjoyed life to its fullest. He made the most of every day and will be sadly missed. He brought sunshine to the lives of many.
Surviving are his parents, Phil and Edie Harnden of Sebago; sister Deborah Magliozzi of Atkinson, N.H.; brother Philip Jr. of Bridgton; and sister Susannah of Portland.
Visiting hours and funeral were held on Sunday, Jan. 17, at Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish. Burial will be in the spring.
