Normand O. Holcomb

PORTLAND — Normand O. Holcomb, 85, of Naples, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012 at Maine Medical Center as a result of complications from an accident at the Naples-Casco Transfer Station on Nov. 1, 2011.

He was born in Woonsocket, R.I., on Jan. 27, 1926, the son of Willis and Delia (Senecal) Holcomb. He was educated in Woonsocket schools. He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 and served during World War II. After being discharged from the Navy, he worked at Manville Jenkes Mills in Manville, R.I. He then went on to Draper Corporation in Hopedale, Mass., and retired from there after many years.

He married Rhonda Pearson in 1980, and moved to Naples in 1985. He worked at Akers and Chrysler carpeting in Auburn for a few years after moving to Maine. He also worked as a caretaker of cottages around the area on Long Lake and Sebago Lake and enjoyed it immensely.

He was a member of St. Agatha’s Church in Woonsocket, R.I., and St. Joseph Church in Bridgton, after moving to Naples in 1985. Norm was also a longtime member of the Henry Baril Veterans’ Post in Woonsocket and served as president at one time.

Norm loved to sit and talk with friends and family about sports and his Navy days, especially over a good cup of coffee. Many friends and family will always remember him for his big “grin,” strong handshake, and his “thumbs up” sign.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda of Naples; a granddaughter and a great-grandson; two stepdaughters, Jana Beardsley of Windham and Tracy Cox of North Sebago; and four step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Holcomb; a son, Bruce Holcomb; two sisters, Constance Charpentier and Lillian Tessier; and five brothers, Raymond, Harold, Bertrand, Donald and Gerald.
