Norman Dyer

RUMFORD — Norman Leon Dyer, 85, of Rumford, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his loving family following a long illness.
He was born in Mexico on April 17, 1929, a son of Clifford Dyer and Maude (McClintick) Dyer. Norman was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1946.
Following graduation, he met and married his wife of 66 years, Marilyn Niles. Shortly after marrying, they moved to Rumford, where they raised their four children.
After 41 years at the Rumford Mill, he retired in 1988. Retirement gave Norman an opportunity to pursue his many hobbies, including painting, woodworking (ranging from furniture to ornaments), playing backgammon and tackling the complex world of computers. He loved traveling and was always ready for his next trip. He was a jack-of-all-trades, a perfectionist and always there when needed.
Norman was happiest when spending time with his family.
Surviving are his children, Sharon Dyer Muhilly of Buxton, Beverly Dunton of Limington, Wayne Dyer of Durham, N.H. and Linda Rao of Casco; two brothers, Kenneth Dyer of Mexico and Seffner, Fla. and Leo Dyer of Mexico; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Gregory Leon Dyer.
