Norman Dodge

WINDHAM — Norman Bradford Dodge, 85, of Windham, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Portland on Aug. 4, 1933, the youngest of eight children. He was married to Mary E. (Cote) from 1954 until 1979. Together, they raised their five children in the same Windham house, enlarging it as the family grew.

Norman married Mary M. (Boyle) on July 5, 1980.

Norman began working at Maine Central Railroad Rigby yard as a young adult, working his way up to engineer. During his almost 40 years with the railroad, many were spent working alongside his father and three brothers. The Dodge family was the largest railroad employee family in Maine. He enjoyed making furniture in his woodworking shop, as well as boating on Panther Pond in Raymond.

He was predeceased by his infant son, David Dodge; his parents; and six siblings.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary; his children, Ronald Dodge of Raymond, Bonnie Searles of Poland, Kenneth Dodge of Raymond, Sandra Mears of Westbrook and Bradford Dodge of Brooksville, Fla.; his stepchildren, Deborah Shugars of Casco, Robert Boyle of Casco and Judith Street of Gray; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

An informal memorial visitation with the family was held on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, at Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray, from 4 to 7 p.m. Private burial will be in the spring.
