ROME, GEORGIA — Nicholas Scott Golden, 22, of Houston, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia, after a tragic skateboarding accident. Nicholas was born June 25, 1990, to Ann and Scott Golden in Dallas, Texas. He was a third generation University of Maine student studying geology, and was the vice president of the Geology Club. His grandfather and parents also attended the University of Maine.

Nick was the captain of the Lamar High School Lacrosse Team in Houston in 2009. He also played Lacrosse at Bridgton Academy in Bridgton, Maine. Nick was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and ice fishing in the mountains of western Maine. He enjoyed four wheeling, snowmobiling, snowboarding and rock climbing.

Nick is survived by his girlfriend Tina Ross; grandparents Frederick and Nancy Sheenan of Sandwich, Mass. and Thomas and Caroline Golden of Bridgton; his mother Ann Golden of Rome, Georgia; his father and stepmother Scott and Jackie Golden of Houston, Texas; his sister, Erin Golden, and stepbrothers Grant and Blake Niccum of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by aunts and uncles  Jane and Mike Haley, Kate and Dennis Martinek, Mark and Cindy Golden, Brian and Elizabeth Golden, David and Patty Golden, and their children.

Nick is loved and cared for by all of his family and friends and will be sorely missed. His smile brightened even the darkest room, and he truly made the world a better place. He never met a stranger; he made everyone feel at ease. Tina’s family will be forever grateful for the time that Tina and Nick were able to spend together. His sister Erin affectionately referred to him as “NuNu.”

A celebration of Nick’s life will be held with family and close friends on a favorite hilltop in Phillips, Maine. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Bangor Maine Humane Society, a cause he believed in and avidly supported (www.bangorhumane.org, (207-942-8902).
