Nellie B. Gilpatric, 86

WINDHAM — Nellie Belle Gilpatric, 86, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born in South Paris on Aug. 26, 1928, to Wallace W. and Annie (McAllister) Merrill. Nellie grew up in Fryeburg and graduated from Fryeburg Academy, Class of 1946.

She owned and operated a diner in Gray for many years. It was there she met her future husband, Kenneth E. Gilpatric. They were married for 45 years until his passing in 2008.

Nellie held a variety of jobs over her lifetime, once as a seamstress manufacturing clothing at a local mill. Most recently, she worked as a clerk for Hall Stamp & Coin.

She enjoyed sewing and made many things for her grandchildren. Her hobbies were reading mysteries and doing puzzles. She enjoyed many camping trips when her children were young. After they retired, she and her husband traveled frequently to South Carolina and Florida.

Nellie will be remembered for her sweet disposition, being very friendly, and for her willingness to help people.

She was predeceased by her parents and husband.

She is survived by her daughters, Wanda Bostock of Falmouth and Auralie Johnson of Buxton; stepson, Charles Gilpatric of Lisbon; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
