Nancy I. Norton

STANDISH — Nancy Ingraham Norton, 84, of Standish died Friday, Aug. 12, 2011 at the Springbrook Nursing Care Facility in Westbrook with her family at her side.

Nancy was born in Rockport on Feb. 13, 1927, the daughter of Maynard C. and Marion (Everett) Ingraham, Sr. and graduated from Rockport High School in 1945. She continued her education at Northeast Business College in Portland, where she met her first husband Harry Compton, who predeceased her in 1977.

Over the years, Nancy was employed by Ingraham’s Store in Rockport, Lothrop Ford in Belfast, Burroughs Corp. in Portland and was co-owner of Compton’s Market at Sebago Lake Station from 1973 to 1977. She has been retired for 34 years. Until recent years, she enjoyed biking, knitting, caning chairs, and volunteering many hours for the Sebago Center Community Church in Sebago.

Besides her first husband, she was predeceased by her stepson, Eric Norton.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 33 years, Bennett Norton, Jr.; her brother, Maynard Ingraham, Jr. of Rockport; her daughter, Susan Cassidy of Robbinston and Standish; her son, Randall H. Compton of Sebago; a stepson, Joel Norton of Westbrook; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 at the Sebago Center Community Church on Route 107 in Sebago with a reception following at the church. Dolby Funeral Chapel, Windham is handling arrangements. For online condolences, please visit the website at ww.dolbyfuneralchapels.com
