NORWAY — Nancy DeHart Wood, 80, a longtime Norway resident, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 after a brief illness.

She was born in Boston, Mass. on March 5, 1935, to Albert and Susan Greene and grew up in Ashland, Mass., at the family apple orchard. Her education included graduation from Walnut Hill School, University of New Hampshire and New England Baptist Hospital, where she earned a registered nursing degree.

A longtime nurse, she worked at Boston area hospitals and a short stint at the American Hospital in Beirut, Lebanon, before becoming a psychiatric nurse, first at McLean Hospital of Belmont, Mass., and later at Tri-County Mental Health, where she worked for many years at several locations.

She married Thomas Wood of Norway in 1968, and had two sons, Peter and Timothy. After her divorce, she moved to Harrison in a house beside her beloved Crooked River.

She was a longtime member of the First Universalist Church of Norway, where she was active in social justice issues, as well as in the choir and the campaign for a new church organ.

Known for her joy in life, big heart and sense of adventure, she loved classical music, foreign travel, good food, good friends, sunny beaches, Scotland and her family.

She is survived by her sons, Peter and Timothy of Norway; brother, George of Wiscasset; a granddaughter; three nieces and many cousins.

A celebration of her life was held at the First Universalist Church of Norway on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 45 Main Street, South Paris.
