Mildred S. Rankin

CORNISH — Mildred S. Rankin, 82, of Cornish and formerly of West Baldwin, died on Sept. 16, 2010 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born in Baldwin on Oct. 5, 1927, a daughter of Preston and Mildred Nason Sanborn. She attended local schools.

Among other jobs, she worked for several years for the Hanold Co. in Standish as a presser. She enjoyed sewing and many other crafts. Above all, she was a devoted homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Spending time with her family meant the most to her.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 33 years, Lester “Dunham” Rankin in 1981; five brothers, Harold, Warren, Carl, Daniel and Dennis Sanborn; and four sisters, Etta Bliss, Iva Marean, Marion Marean and Harriet Wilson.

Surviving are her son, Francis Rankin of East Baldwin; her daughter, Pamela Pease of Cornish; a grandson and granddaughter; a brother, Herman Sanborn of Buxton; and two sisters, Rebecca Chute of Arizona and Gustie Howard of Florida; and many loving nieces and nephews.

An hour of visitation was held on Sunday, Sept. 19, immediately followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. at the Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish. Pastor William Rankin officiated.
