Michael Corcoran

Michael Francis Corcoran Sr., "Dad", 57 passed away in his Bridgton home, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, after a courageously-fought battle with cancer.

Michael was born to Madaline Alice (Carlton) Corcoran and Francis Earl Corcoran on April 28, 1955, and grew up in North Yarmouth. He attended Greely High School and made many lifelong friendships there. He married Marla Susan Arris of Yarmouth on Sept. 2, 1978, and enjoyed 35 years of marriage despite driving his wife crazy over his obsession with vintage western movies.

He founded and operated the Michael Corcoran Painting Company. It was a well-known fact that if a family member or friend needed work Michael always had a job available for them. A few years after his son Michael was born, Mike started a new phase of his life with the Michael Corcoran & Son Excavation Company. He stepped away from running his own business to spend more quality time with his family, the joy of his life. To that end, he built a camp in Dexter, Maine, for family gatherings and it quickly became their home away from home during the summer months. But his favorite place to relax was in Lovers Key, Fort Myers, Fla., and it holds many special memories for his family and friends. Michael thoroughly enjoyed salt water fishing while there. He took two of his closest friends to Lovers Key for a last vacation before he and his wife helped them on their own final journeys. Michael was a very kind, generous, giving man and a friend to all who knew him. He will be truly missed by his family, his friends and, most of all, by his wife, who has lost the love of her life.

Michael is survived by his loving wife Marla; daughters: Amy McNear, Nicole Corcoran-Allen, Whitney Corcoran; son Michael Jr.; grandchildren (who all called him Dad): Eric, Antonia, Ella, Lily, Dylan, Connor, Eliana and Jenessa; and one great-grandchild, Noel. Also, his sister Lynda Maloney; brothers Dennis (Marsha), Steve (Myat), and Francis; mother-in-law Autumn Arris; father-in-law Gerald Arris; Leslie Heselton, friend and mother of Amy; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. He is predeceased by his parents Madeline and Francis Corcoran; grandparents Bruse and Jessie Corcoran, Harry Carlton and Mary Carlton; uncles Gerald Corcoran, Horace Corcoran, Norman Corcoran and Eugene Corcoran; and his loving sister Deborah Corcoran.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday Feb. 23, 2013 from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 11 at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A celebration of Michael's life will follow at the AMVETS Hall on North Road, in Yarmouth. Please visit www.lindquistfuneralhome.com
