Meredith C. Gordon

BANGOR — Meredith C. Gordon, 88, of Bangor, formerly of Portland, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, with her family by her side at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor, following a brief illness.
She was born in Skowhegan on July 22, 1922, the daughter of Raymond and Christie Pratt. She graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1940 and married her husband of 31 years, Linwood Gordon, in 1941. Their passion was fishing with close friends and family in Jackman.
She became a member of the South Portland Church of the Nazarene in 1958. While there, she served as a children’s Sunday School teacher for numerous years and was once named Teacher of the Year. Later in life, she also worked with children through the Portland Foster Grandparent Program for 15 years. She had a way with children whom she loved and they loved her in return.
She was a dedicated grandmother to all of her grandchildren. In her latter years, her passion and prayer was to become a great-great-grandmother, which was fulfilled on March 5, 2009.
While in Portland, she lived in an apartment at the North School for 23 years and moved to the Bangor House in 2005. Wherever she lived or worked, people loved Meredith.
She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Louise Estabrook and Althea Weaver; a brother, Gregory Pratt; and a cherished granddaughter.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Shane of Casco and Gloria Pendleton of Hermon; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous foster grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.
Visiting hours will be held on Jan. 15, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Windham Church of the Nazarene at the junction of Routes 202 and 115. A celebration of Meredith’s life will follow at 11 a.m.
