SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — After helping the Wentworth Institute of Technology men’s basketball team to a 3-0 week, junior forward Derek Mayo of Casco has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played between Jan. 28-Feb. 3.

Mayo averaged 19.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 52.2% from the floor. He matched a career high when he scored 22 points (on 11-for-22 shooting) to go along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists in a 83-76 overtime win at Endicott last Tuesday. He eclipsed his career high with 25 points in an 80-67 win over Nichols on Saturday. He had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in Thursday's 53-47 win over Western New England. Mayo shot better than 50% from the floor in all three games.

Starting all 21 of the Leopards’ games this season, Mayo is averaging 13.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.

Wentworth is 14-7 overall and 10-4 in CCC play. The Leopards looked to extend their win streak to a season-high six games when they traveled to Salve Regina on Wednesday night.

Derek was a 2010 graduate of Lake Region High School and helped lead the Laker basketball team to the Western Maine semi-finals that year.
