Marlene R. Hanson, 77

WINDHAM — Marlene Robbins Hanson, 77, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014, following a brief stay at Ledgewood Manor in Windham. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Marlene was the daughter of Maynard and Beatrice Robbins of Deer Isle. She went to school in Portland, where she met her husband, Stanley F. Hanson Jr. They had been married for 58 years. In her early 30s, Marlene survived a significant brain tumor. She was a strong woman and she was determined to raise her children, which she did proudly.

Marlene was a social person. She sold Avon, arranged many social gatherings, and was a member of the Congregations Church and the Eastern Star. Her greatest joy was farming and raising food for her family. She was everyone’s mom. You could always find her in her kitchen baking pies and cookies for her children, as well as all the children in the neighborhood.

Marlene worked at Porteous Department Store in Portland and Auburn until her retirement. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time at home on Sebago Lake surrounded by her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her son, Scott W. Hanson.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Stanley F. Hanson Jr.; her son, Christopher S. Hanson of Raymond; her daughter, Deborah Hanson Butler of Gorham; her son, Gregory R. Hanson of Melrose, Mass.; a grandson, a granddaughter, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday followed by an informal remembrance time at Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray. A graveside service was held on Monday in Gray Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.
