Marjorie Kimball

NORTH WATERFORD — Marjorie Shirley Goodale Kimball, 93, of North Waterford, died at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015.

She was born May 4, 1921, in Clinton, the daughter of the late John L. and Elsie Dunham Goodale. After attending Clinton schools, she graduated from Farmington Normal School in 1941, and earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Farmington in 1965. Marjorie started her teaching career in Welchville. She taught in area schools until her retirement in 1985. After her retirement, she volunteered for many years at the Waterford Elementary School.

She married William Hervey Kimball of Waterford on August 28, 1942, in Gorham. Following WWII, she and her family lived in Clinton for three years before moving to North Waterford in 1948, where the family grew to include nine children.

Mrs. Kimball served her community in countless ways over the years, working tirelessly for the many causes she held dear. Among them, she was an active member of the Grange for 75 years. She held many offices, including Worthy Matron of Waterford Grange #479. As a member of the North Waterford Congregational Church, she provided leadership in all areas of church life. Through the years, she served both the church and the Oxford County United Parish. She was past Matron of the Keoka chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and later was a member of Chapter 168 in Norway. She was a member of the Waterford Historical Society and enjoyed sharing her interest and knowledge of the history of her town, carefully preparing programs given at local meetings. She was past president of the women’s teacher society, Delta Kappa Gamma, and belonged to the Oxford County Education Association-Retired, where she held many offices. As president of the Waterford Friendly Senior Citizens, she organized monthly luncheon meetings and activities. She was a charter member of the Mollyockett Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International. She played the church organ for 60 years, and provided piano and organ music for many organizations.

Marjorie enjoyed many hobbies, including knitting, quilting, swimming, writing, reading and doing puzzles with friends and family. She was greatly appreciated for her kindness and supportive friendship to those who knew her.

She is survived by her children, George and Linda Kimball of Gray, John and Michele Kimball of Norway, Bill and Peg Kimball of Bangor, Barbara and Stephen Riggott of South Paris, Don Kimball and Sandy Melidones of Bangor, Wayne and Wanda Kimball of Water Valley, Miss., Gail Stetson and Dan Franz of Bridgton; her 16 grandchildren; her 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Other surviving relatives include her beloved sister Jacquelyn Jabar and her husband Paul of Augusta; 11 nieces, two nephews and their numerous children.

She was predeceased by her sister Eunice Miles, husband Hervey, son James, and daughter Margaret Cyr.

Visiting hours, hosted by George and Linda Kimball, will be held Friday, February 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home in South Paris. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. at the North Waterford Congregational Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, North Waterford, in the spring.

The family is very grateful for and wishes to thank the many thoughtful friends and neighbors who have known and supported Marjorie throughout the years.
